DEFINITION of Tron

Tron is an open source blockchain-based decentralized platform that enables seamless sharing of digital entertainment content.

BREAKING DOWN Tron

By leveraging the blockchain and peer-to-peer (P2P) network technology, Tron caters to the needs of the global digital entertainment industry in a more efficient and cost-effective manner. It aims to circumvent the problem of control of the Internet and its content by a limited number of giant corporations.

Underlying Tron is a technology which supports a distributed digital storage platform. It facilitates the creators to host their entertainment content, and grants the authorized user direct access to the entertainment content without any intermediary like Apple Store or Google PlayStore, thereby cutting out the middleman and related fees. The content creators benefit by receiving the funds directly from the users.

Tron uses its own official cryptocurrency Tronix (TRX), and its initial coin offering (ICO) was introduced in September 2017 by a Singapore based non-profit organization that operates Tron.
