What Is a Point Balance?

A statement typically produced at the end of the calendar month indicating the profits and losses of a client's open futures contracts.

Point Balance Explained

Generally, a futures commission merchant will issue point balances based on the official closing or settlement prices of futures contracts held within an investor's portfolio. This provides a summary of overall portfolio health.

The monthly statement shows the prices and amounts of contracts, long and short. The point balance is issued on the last business day of each month or on a regularly selected date each month. The contracts can be sorted by delivery date, expiration date and strike price.
