Lawrence (Larry) Ellison is the co-founder (along with Bob Miner and Ed Oates), Chairman of the Board and Chief Technology Officer of Oracle Corporation. He was initially the CEO, but relinquished that title in 2014. Oracle provides a comprehensive and fully integrated stack of cloud applications and platform services. As of 2017, Oracle had $37.7 billion in revenue, had 430,000 customers and employed up to 138,000 people worldwide. Oracle started when it was contracted by the CIA to build a database program with the code name "Oracle." The company's name became Relational Technologies and then Oracle Corporation.

He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign from 1962 to 1964 and attended the University of Chicago in 1966. He founded Oracle Team USA, a yacht racing syndicate, and with BMW Oracle Racing won the America’s Cup in 2010. Oracle Team USA successfully defended its title in 2013.
