What is The Australian School Of Business

The Australian School of Business is the business school within the University of New South Wales, located in Australia. The school is ranked 13th for accounting and finance according to the 2016 QS World University Rankings. In 2018, the Financial Times ranked the school’s full-time MBA program 63rd in its list of the top 100 MBA programs in the world.

The school offers a number of programs and majors. Students can choose courses of study within the disciplines of accounting, finance, actuarial science, economics, management, marketing, taxation and information systems.

The school currently enrolls about 15,000 students between its undergraduate and graduate programs. Approximately one third of students are international. Since 2011, the school and its faculty have been awarded more than $15 million in grants from the prestigious Australian Research Council.

BREAKING DOWN The Australian School Of Business

The Australian School of Business formed in 2008 when the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) merged with the school of commerce and economics at UNSW to create one consolidated school of business within the university.

Previously, the AGSM merged with the Graduate School of Business at the University of Sydney in 1998. This partnership brought the school international recognition as a formidable educational institution for those wishing to study business.

The school claims to have created more tech entrepreneurs than any other Australian university, and that more of its alumni are CEOs in Australia's top 50 companies than any other university.

In order to encourage and support alumni success, the school offers professional development and networking opportunities for alumni periodically. One event, titled Meet the CEO, brings alumni and students together with accomplished CEOs and other business leaders. Notable luminaries have included Sir Richard Branson of Virgin and Nicholas Moore of Macquarie Group

Strategy 2020

Since 2015, the Australian Business School has worked toward fully implementing a five-year plan to create a school that reflects its mission to be a, “globally engaged, high impact and academically rigorous business school that enhances practice through leading edge research.”

Toward that end, the school has focused on supporting high-impact research, creating a career-focused learning experience for students, and emphasizing two-way engagement with partners and students in Asia.

In October 2015, UNSW launched the UNSW 2025 strategic plan, which outlines a larger ten-year plan for the university as a whole. While many aspects of this larger plan do not directly apply to the business school, the larger strategic plan does provide a framework and a context for the business school’s own vision for development.
